Don't be so defensive, I didn't slag on you, I simply explained why what I said was not incorrect. I never said YOU were incorrect. It's a matter of nomenclature in nautical engineering and why that nomenclature is applied, not a matter of how much water is displaced. I KNOW that the weight of water displaced equals the weight of the vessel and never said otherwise. YOU TOTALLY MISSED ALL OF THAT. If either of us is "not getting something" here, it's you. You need to re-read what I wrote and apparently you need to re-read it more carefully. Preferably without that great big chip on your shoulder. Incidentally I had that exact same exercise in displacement you had in college. The difference being I had that class in 10th grade science. Oh and hey, one more thing. If you want to "try to do me a favor", try using paragraphs. You sure don't write like someone who's been to college. What has the world to show for it? 40,000 fanatic muslims running rampant through Syria and Northern Iraq and a little of Southern Turkey. Japan considering amending their constitution to reform the JSDF into a military. Northern Africa on fire essentially. I dunno about you but I see more chaos than order in the world right now. You may not like it and none of you peacenicks may like it but the fact is without a strong leader with the balls to use a heavy application of force when a line is crossed this is what we get. I don't know about you all but I prefered the orderly Chaos with countries like Iran, North Korea, and Russia keeping to the shadows and fanatical groups kept too small to be a huge threat to the rest of the world. You also may not realize it but until some of these countries in the Mid-East and in Africa dump the corruption in their systems of government and find other means of farming for themselves and making use of their resources within their borders the poor countries will continue to be that way. Reply 3 View all 19 replies Timmay14a Timmay14a1 year ago +oneFUBAR 12B Not to be personal or insulting, if you did serve, you should know full well that everything and anything in the sake of being bored gets argued about, and that is amplified x10 when involved fellow persons in numbers from English speaking countries, on subjects of who invented English to which sport is better soccer or football....if you were a officer and your interaction with native English speaking allies are on a smaller, more formal scale, rather then 18-22 year old high school educated infantrymen, then i completely understand your outburst and outlook on never hearing a who invented what argument when serving with other exercises with English speaking allies like Australia or England Read more Reply oneFUBAR 12B oneFUBAR 12B1 year ago +Timmay14a Okay I understand that argument out of boredom We argued over alot of different shit such as football and Euro Football. Things like that. I gues we did sort of have that argument what I was trying to get at however was nobody took it seriously. None of us where upset or hurt at the end of it and we were still well What I consider those guys to have been my friends. We didnt take any of the jokes we made at each other seriously. What I was trying to make a point of was however we are allies we dont have to be fighting with each other. I was really annoyed when I made that comment (bad day already). Your right I didnt think about the times we were bored and screwing with each other. I still wouldn't say that we were serious however. Reply 2 psycronizer psycronizer3 months ago someone will answer this I'm sure..surely it must be more efficient to use that heat energy from the nuclear reactors to spin up one turbine and generate electricity, and power everything else with electric motors, including the props ? using nuclear power to heat water to steam and steam powered turbines just seems so bloody stone age to me..why are they still using steam ?! surely steam isn't THAT efficient ? surely ?! come to think of it..I find the whole conversion of heat into electrical energy by using a substance to power a turbine and generator quite old hat...I'm surprised that science has not found a better way to make electricity directly from the nuclear power..resulting in a far more efficient conversion process..I don't know..it just seems odd that with all this high tech nuclear power and all the potential it holds..and here we are still making fucking steam...what's up with that..there MUST be some better way ! what the hell ! am I right? or am I right? Read more Reply 2 View all 19 replies Michael Mortimer Michael Mortimer1 month ago I was having a similar discussion last week. Someone was talking about how far we have come with cars. I retorted it does not seem so to me. After over 100 years we are still using an inefficient engine that that spins a shaft that then turns wheels/tires that with friction move a vehicle forward. I read somewhere that for all the power an engine produces, it is only about 10% efficient, meaning that 10% is what moves the vehicle, 90% of that power is lost along the way, so to speak. Since the wheel has been around for thousands of years and tires/engines since the late 1800s, I'd like to think by now everyone would be driving in cars that hover above electrified strips or platforms, or like in the Jetsons, we fly everywhere we need to go. After all, as I loosely calculate, the wheel has been around Read more Reply Curtis Smith Curtis Smith4 weeks ago Only way to harness nuclear power is through steam. you can convert the steam (kinetic) into electricity by using a turbine. doing this you lose a bit of energy through friction and heat. Electricity can not move the ship without being converted into kinetic energy. converting electricity energy back to kinetic generate more friction and heat, therefor it is more efficient to use the steam turbines for locomotion of the ship. they do convert a lot of steam in electricity but for the most efficient locomotion it is best to use steam turbines as energy gets lost when converting from one form to another.
